Kerry Brady, Founder, Director and Guide

Kerry Brady, MA, SEP, is a deep ecologist who focuses on supporting the shift in consciousness needed to create a truly regenerative culture, for people and the planet. She is the co-founder and director of Ecology of Awakening and has more than 25 years of experience in transformational modalities including non-dual wisdom approaches, psychotherapy, Somatic Experiencing trauma work, deep ecology, permaculture, nature-based retreats and vision quests. Kerry and mathematical cosmologist Brian Swimme co-created Nature and Eros, a celebrated course which they have continuously co-taught for 16 years to graduate students at the California Institute of Integral Studies, where she obtained a Masters in Integral Counseling Psychology. She specialized in the field of trauma through the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute. Kerry created and teaches Living Resiliency workshops, integrating biologically based trauma work with permaculture principles and practices in order to increase our adaptive capacity as we navigate this momentous time. Currently she teaches Living Resiliency for the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center and the Permaculture Skills Center. Kerry trained in contemporary vision fast and rites of passage work with School of Lost Borders and Animas Valley Institute, where she served as faculty with depth psychologist Bill Plotkin.

Being around Kerry, you understand why the ancient world regarded some people as wizards. It is as if she has this rare organ of perception that enables her to find those wild places where the beings not only speak to us, they guide us by using their hidden knowledge of our own personal destiny….
— Brian Swimme, mathematical cosmologist, author of The Universe Story

Testimonials from Participants

A retreat with Kerry is an opportunity to discover what your body already knows the way an acorn knows its potential destiny. It is no spiritual shortcut, but an authentic path of self discovery, which if truly followed, will lead you, ultimately, to confront what you most fear. It is not a new age pseudo-religion or a Native American appropriation. It is like un-school, a way to being to unlearn those deeply ingrained patterns which we practice to silence or drown out the voice of the cosmos within, the voice that calls us away from the TV and the computer, and into the living world.

Kerry is basically a shape-shifter, always surprising and delighting, often simply helping one to see where the doorways are, sometimes helping to open the heaviest of them, yet never getting in the way, never doing the actual work, always trusting no matter what the outcome, honest, authentic, human.
— K.A., New Mexico
I am in awe of Kerry’s skills that so delicately foster an unraveling of the rigidly patterned threads of daily life, leaving each of us in the group open to the possibility of…possibility.
— E.A., Hawaii
Kerry embodies the qualities my favorite teachers have had: humility, transparency, deep wisdom in her area of specialty, sensitivity to the group’s needs, a mastery of language to share her ideas, and an obvious passion and love for the work she does.
— D.T., California
It is rare I give over fully to the guidance of another, but Kerry’s invitation and warmth is so compelling that I couldn’t resist. I so needed this – to give up control and just allow myself to be held by the nourishing and sustaining womb that she creates. Here, I was able to give over to the subtle, deepening of my relationship to the universe.
